A couple of friends once studied in Germany originally set up the alumni association “Eintopf Klub Surabaya” some 25 years ago. As their backgrounds were different (Engineering, Social science, Medical science etc.) a name had to be found representing this uniqueness. The German soup “Eintopf” made of ingredients like beans, meat, potatoes, etc., is best representing this uniqueness.
Although we now have around 300 members registered, at that time it was only 200 members of “Eintopf Klub Surabaya”.

On returning to their home town, the students from different German universities nurtured the strong desire to keep in touch, tell the old memorable stories, and still meet once a month at the so called "Treffpunkt" to say hello and discuss current issues. Each time a different topic is chosen and a speaker is invited. At times the speakers are just our own  members which gathered a lot of experiences at place of work. Prof. Puruhito, Dipl.-Ing. Lay Hardi & Dipl.-Ing. Roy Hage currently led the club.

“Eintopf Klub” maintains an office in the same building as the former Goethe Institute in Surabaya, which in December 1996 was to be closed down due to rationalization of its German main office. To keep the institute operational, the board of the club initiated the take-over of the former institute by founding the "Foundation of Goethe Indonesia" also called "Goethe Zentrum".

Eintopf Klub Surabaya also collect funds and donates to poor or handicapped children or to villages hit by Tsunami, Mud-flood, it organizes bazaars an the yearly event of "Oktoberfest”.  Since 2002 it expanded its activities in close co-operation with InWent. An increasing number of seminars, workshops, and conferences were held, mainly focusing on gender issues, environmental and social standards, or conflict management, in short “Capacity Building”.  Public organizations, news agencies, government institution, Universities, and the industry chamber associate with the Klub. As the future looks bright and challenging in this ever-changing world, the "Eintopf Klub" adapts to meet the needs.
