The Freie Universität Berlin together with the University of Hamburg and the University of Göttingen are establishing a network for Chinese alumni in the geosciences.

The aim of the network will be to link those Chinese scientists who studied or worked at the respective universities, to offer a platform for exchange, and to make recent scientific developments more easily accessible. The network will provide the alumni the opportunity to position themselves in the topics of climate and environmental protection as well as in anthropogenic landscape changes in China. In addition, the network will inform about lectures and events of relevance.

An opening workshop will take place in Nanjing in 2010 to adjust the network to the ideas and needs of its members and to discuss further proceedings.
End of that year, another workshop will take place in Lanzhou. It will deal with water resources and landscape protection in Western China and will introduce official local delegates and public utilities. Later on, it is planned to organize workshops on current topics once a year.

Furthermore, it is planned to organize talks by the alumni in varying places all over China to inform about subject-related works in industry, economy, and science.
