Organisation: Technische Universität Berlin

Bewerbungsfrist: 12.02.2023

International cooperation in vocational education and training flourished in the second decade of the 21st century and is of increasing importance, especially for developing and emerging countries. On the one hand, there is the need to enable the large number of young people leaving secondary school to make a successful transition into working and adult life. On the other hand, sufficient skills to create social and economic wealth are needed.

Cuba has decades of experience in international cooperation and scientific exchange with developing countries, as well as a long history of cooperation with Germany. The country itself is in a process of social and economic transformation. In the seminar, we will - on the one hand - learn about Cuba's past experience with education and training and - on the other hand - observe and discuss the need for and challenges of future concepts.

The seminar will be held in English.

We are looking to address some of the most pressing issues related to education and training such as the pathway to decent employment for school leaving youth, the supply of the economic sector in emerging and developing countries with qualified labor force as well as the nexus between economic wealth, societal well-being and social coherence by means of successful vocational education and training.

  • Discussion of the concepts and practice of innovative education and training,
  • Knowledge transfer in relation to action-oriented and competence-promoting initial and continuing education and training,
  • Knowledge enhancement regarding innovative concepts of initial and continuing education and training with special consideration of the Cuban context,
  • Strengthening South-South-North cooperation in the area of initial and continuing vocational and in-company training.

  • Day 1: Individual arrival in Havana
  • Day 2: Get to know each other, keynote speech, joint transfer to Sancti Spíritus
  • Day 3: Welcome and introduction
  • Day 4: Exchange of experience, input on international cooperation for innovation in initial and continuing vocational education and training, visit of Cuban companies and continuing training institutions
  • Day 5: Visit of new enterprises and exchange on training needs of small private enterprises
