There's a significant disparity in research resources and infrastructure between Europe and Africa, hindering effective research into diseases like malaria that disproportionately affect African populations. This gap slows down the development of crucial solutions for global health challenges.

Researchers in Europe seeking to conduct impactful studies on neglected tropical diseases, and critically, the communities in Africa burdened by these illnesses as well as populations in these regions would be the main people affected. Our target group includes international research institutions, universities, pharmaceutical companies, and local African communities and health organizations. Being able to do this type of research would also facilitate the implementation of solutions directly on the ground, in areas where these solutions are needed.

The ongoing lack of focused research means preventable and treatable diseases continue to cause immense suffering and death in Africa. The cost of inaction is continued health crises, economic instability, and a widening global health equity gap, impacting millions of lives daily.

Our solution addresses the problem by acting as a crucial bridge. We would facilitate the entire research process for European researchers in Africa, ensuring their resources are effectively deployed to tackle diseases like malaria directly where they are most prevalent, fostering local scientific capacity.

Unlike ad-hoc collaborations, our approach offers a structured, end-to-end research facilitation service. We would provide comprehensive local support, including regulatory navigation, cultural immersion, and community engagement, ensuring ethical, impactful, and sustainable research outcomes that respect local contexts.

Success would mean accelerated research and development for neglected diseases, leading to more effective treatments and prevention strategies. This would drastically improve public health outcomes, reduce mortality, and enhance the well-being and economic stability of vulnerable communities in Africa. In addition, it would significantly develop the skills and connections of African researchers, empowering them to lead future health initiatives within their own communities.

Existing alternatives include direct, often informal, researcher-to-researcher connections, or larger, generalized international development organizations whose primary focus isn't specialized research facilitation. Some African universities might offer limited administrative support, but rarely the comprehensive, end-to-end services that could be provided.

Our confidence stems from a successful pilot project with Fraunhofer IZI in Leipzig, financed by GIZ. RoK Diagnostics successfully connected them with multiple health centers in Benin and managed all administrative and logistical needs. This concrete experience proves the feasibility and value of our specialized facilitation model.

The biggest challenge will be effectively reaching and engaging with a broader network of European researchers and institutions who are actively seeking partners for African-focused health research. Developing targeted outreach strategies and building trust within the European scientific community will be crucial for scaling our operations.
