Science has established beyond doubt that the window for action regarding climate change and ist effects is closing rapidly. In November 2022, Egypt hosted the 27th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh, with a view to building on previous successes and paving the way for future ambition. COP27 is widely described as a defining moment in which global stakeholders rise to the occasion to fight against climate change.

Professor Markus Große Ophoff (The German Federal Environmental Foundation (Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt, DBU)) and Nady Mahmoud (UN high-level Climate Champions Team) report about their experiences at COP27 and their assessment of the dialogue. You will get to know how a World Climate Conference works as well as about the main outcomes of COP27 in Sharm el Shaik. Furthermore, you will learn about the role of the Nature theme in the global Climate Agenda and how nature was treated in COP27th initiatives, finance, promises, and tracking progress.
