WHAT DOES DIVERSITY MEAN AND WHAT ADDED VALUE DOES IT BRING?

Diversity in research stands for a broad variety of perspectives, experiences and realities of life - for example in terms of gender, origin, age, social background, disability, sexual orientation or religious affiliation. This diversity strengthens the quality of scientific findings and is a foundation of excellent research.

Excellent science needs a variety of perspectives and experiences.

Diversity is more than a social concern - it creates added value and excellence. Diversity in research teams creates new perspectives, promotes innovative ideas and strengthens scientific quality. Different experiences, ways of thinking and backgrounds lead to more creative questions, more relevant results and more sustainable solutions. , but also more efficient - and therefore better for society as a whole.

EFFECTS OF DIVERSITY ON RESEARCH RESULTS

  • Inclusive research ensures long-term social innovation and future viability.
  • The participation of diverse talents strengthens equal opportunities and scientific quality.
  • Teams with different genders, cultural backgrounds and perspectives often work in a more solution-oriented and creative way.
  • Diversity expands methodological and content-related approaches in research.
  • Different horizons of experience help to identify blind spots at an early stage and develop new questions.

HOW TO PROMOTE DIVERSITY

Possible measures at universities and research institutions include

  • Anchoring diversity strategies institutionally
  • Conduct training on bias and inclusion
  • Anchoring diversity as a criterion in
  • Offer mentoring and empowerment programs
  • Actively promote research on diversity

CONCLUSION: DIVERSITY NEEDS INCLUSION

Diversity alone is not enough - only through an inclusive culture in which all researchers feel heard, supported and recognized can diversity unfold its full potential. Without inclusion, there is a risk of exclusion mechanisms, inefficient communication and a lack of innovation.

Various teams feel less comfortable - and that is precisely why they are more efficient.
