Afrika kommt! - Initiative for prospective leaders from Subsahara-Africa
Basic facts about the network
The “Afrika kommt!” initiative was set-up in 2008 by leading DAX-listed enterprises and large, family-run companies in Germany. The main idea behind the initiative is to provide young African managers from Sub-Saharan African countries with an opportunity to come to Germany and familiarize themselves with our business concepts. At the same time, the program provides a framework for sustainable economic cooperation with Africa.
The core of the program is one year of management training in Germany. It begins with an intensive, three-month language course. The participants then spend eight months with their companies and are involved in the work processes there. This period of practical work experience is supplemented by three international management courses and weekend seminars provided by the participating foundations and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
After returning home, the participants are involved in alumni activities in their home countries. In the subsequent year, a two-week refresher course is held in Germany or Sub-Saharan Africa and a web-based collaborative network is also established.
