Mountain Development Network (MDN)

Basic facts about the network

The Mountain Development Network (MDN), a network of GIZ alumni in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan was formed in December 2010 in order to provide a joint platform for the alumni of the Mountain Development Programme of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The purpose of the network is to serve as think tank for sustainable mountain development in Gilgit-Baltistan on different topics such as change management, cross border tourism and sustainable development of mountain regions through horizontal learning and systematic exchange of experiences. The network acts as a platform to provide an environment for information, knowledge and information sharing, with an atmosphere conducive to mutual learning and support.

The objectives of the Mountain Development Network are to develop its service options in the issues of sustainable development of mountain regions, to develop partnerships with the organizations working in sustainable mountain development and to develop, design and promote programmes and projects to contribute to the well-being of people living in the mountain areas.

Services and Activities

The projects and activities of the Mountain Development Network cover various topics such as:

  • Trainings on various topics (Good Governance, technical writing, Conflict management in natural resources etc.)
  • Conferences and Seminars

  • Exposure Visits for Alumni members as national and international level.

  • Ensure access to information

  • Alumni and partner organizations meetings and Alumni reunion.
