In this talk our speaker Laís Leão will present her work as an activist for women's rights in Brazil. As an Urban Planner/ Manager and NGO Founder, Laís researches and acts on how to create safer cities for women through a Latin American perspective, investigating the influence of media and public policies on the female perception of safety in urban spaces.

Laís is a Brazilian activist, speaker and researcher who tackles urban safety through gendered lenses. As an Architect, Urban Planner and Public Administrator, also holding a Masters in Urban Management, Laís founded the NGO inCities in 2019, focusing on awareness, mobilization, research and advocacy to create safer cities for women in Latin America. Due to her work as an activist, she has been nominated for the Forbes Under30 list in Brazil in 2020. Today, Laís is a German Chancellor Fellow for the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Berlin.

About the format
The Virtual Coffee Break is an interactive format that takes place regularly on the Alumniportal Deutschland. Their aim is to enable exchange and fruitful discussions around different topics, initiatives and projects. Speakers are Germany-Alumni who give a short input presentation and then answer questions from the participants and facilitate a discussion.
