New Alexander von Humboldt Professorships in Artificial Intelligence

Freedom for creative ideas and ideal conditions for independent research - this perspective is offered by the Alexander von Humboldt Professorship to leading scientists who are residing outside of Germany. Each Humboldt Professorship comes with up to € 5 million, making it Germany’s most valuable research award. It aims to bring top international researchers to German universities on a long-term basis. Nominations must be forwarded to the Humboldt Foundation through the rector’s office of the respective university / the scientific directorate of the non-university research institution. Self-nomination is not permitted.

As of now, six new Alexander von Humboldt Professorships for Artificial Intelligence can be awarded every year. Nominees for the new Alexander von Humboldt Professorship for Artificial Intelligence must not necessarily come a technical field; researchers who investigate socio-economic, ethical or legal aspects of Artificial Intelligence may also be nominated. In addition to the new professorships awarded specifically for Artificial Intelligence, up to ten non-specified Humboldt Professorships are available every year to researchers in any discipline.

We welcome synergies that the Alexander von Humboldt Professorship for Artificial Intelligence will generate in connection with DFG projects being funded through the Federal Government’s Artificial Intelligence Strategy.
