Livestreaming of the Events for the 50 Years of Academic Exchange between Germany and East Africa and 60 years of German-Kenyan Diplomatic Relations. 

Germany is a well-respected partner country for higher education, business, and diplomacy. German-East African academic and diplomatic relations, which mark 60 years in 2023, have shaped the biographies of many African academics and alumni who are visible in the regional diversity, across cultures, subject disciplines, and academic traditions. The following events are planned for the 50-year celebration.

Alumni Network Meeting to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the DAAD Nairobi Regional Office for East Africa

The one-day network meeting on 19 September 2023 is planned for up to 100 alumni and guests to physically attend. The hybrid format with livestreaming allows other alumni from the region and partners from Germany to participate online. There will be a kick-off event with welcome addresses and keynotes, a panel discussion and an alumni gallery walk.

60 years of German-Kenyan diplomatic relations & 50 Years of German-East African Science and Research Cooperation Status Quo and Perspectives

The one-day event on 20 September 2023 is planned with attendance for up to 100 researchers and guests. The hybrid format with livestreaming will allow as many other researchers from the region and partners from Germany to participate. There will be a kick-off event with greetings and a keynote address, two panel discussions, presentations on the scientific landscape in Germany and East Africa, and a poster gallery walk.

50 Years DAAD in EA

Nairobi's DAAD office first opened its doors in 1973. Since then, the office has been instrumental in promoting scholarly collaboration between Germany and the East African countries. Come along as we explore the many important events, shows, and other programs that have marked our history throughout the years. We will also include 50 portraits of 50 alumni to celebrate 50 years in the region!
