The COVID-19 pandemic brought the globe to a standstill and has left a long-lasting impact on society, economy, and politics. Countries around the world enforced lockdown measures to curtail the spread of the coronavirus. It was during these difficult circumstances a section of the workforce continued to work regularly. The workforce includes doctors, nurses, police personnel, healthcare administrators, and paramedics. Together they came to be known as the “corona warriors.”

In addition to the corona warriors mentioned here, there is another set of workers whose contribution has been largely ignored by the media and society. The neglected corona warriors include the sanitation workers, manual scavengers, cleaning staff in the hospitals, workers in the mortuary, and crematorium workers. The neglected warriors played a crucial role during the COVID-19 pandemic. Without their labour, it would have been difficult for the rest of the population to remain safe from the coronavirus. The talk will focus on the various ways through which the neglected warriors contributed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
